Global Ocean Challenge
To complete the record the boat must pass through the Suez and Panama Canals and start and finish in the same place. The world governing authority for all Powerboating activities the UIM (Union Internationale Motonautique) has approved our proposed route, which will start in Singapore and call at Maldives, Djibouti, Port Said, Gibraltar, Azores, Puerto Rico, Panama, Acapulco, Hawaii, Marshall Islands and Guam. This will be approximately 23,000 nautical miles.
The team is called the Global Ocean Challenge www.globaloceanchallenge.com.au and is based in Airlie Beach, Australia. The team is led by Captain Mark Smith who you may have heard about in the media when he survived for 11 days stranded at sea with no water and food back in 2005. Over the 11 days stranded at sea the raft took him from Hong Kong to Vietnam where he was eventually rescued. Captain Smith wrote the book “Beyond All Limits” which is a true account of his near-death experience in 2005.
· Mark has over 1.5 Million NM in command under his belt and his crew have over 90 years combined sea experience.
